Pay It Forward

20160510_111203_resizedI was listening to some 80’s music with my husband and I was amazed at how powerful music is. It can transport you back in time to different points in your life. I found myself thinking about a time in my life when I felt so lost and alone and a girl befriended me on the bus. We had grown up together, but didn’t really know each other. She was a passing face in the crowd.   It wasn’t until I started 10th grade that we really got to know each other. We became best friends and in time, I spent most of my time at her house. So much so, that her parents brought in a cot for me to sleep on.

My home life was very traumatic and her home was a place of safety and security. Her parents treated me like I was part of the family.  I was expected to pull my own weight just like everyone else. I am not sure I ever really thanked them for what they did for me.

My friend was like a sister to me. Sure we had our ups and downs but we always ended up back together, Best friends for life.

It is a connection I have been very blessed to say I have had with only three women in my life. I count myself very blessed to say that I have 3 best friends. How amazing is that? I miss each one of them very dearly.

I then started looking at my life now. I am a mature mother and wife now. My children are growing and they have friends. I sat and asked myself, “Am I being that special person for one that is hurting?”

I am now in the position of the parent and am I doing my part? Am I a safe place for a hurting young person? How about you? People are hurting all around us. Are we looking for people that we can pay it forward with? Are we being that helping hand to those that need it?

I am not sure I would be where I am today if it were not for those that reached out and helped me. Am I being that person for one that is hurting and lost? Am I being a helping hand to those that need it? Are you?

If we are not watching for opportunities to pay it forward, we will miss it. Pay it forward and tell me about it.  I’d love to hear your stories!

I have many people in my life that have taken me under their wings. Mostly older people than me who have shown love and care for me. It is very special to have people that care and love you for who you are. And yes my home has been a haven for many.
    Love ya sis!
